How to read the AFL ladder

Played, wins, losses and draws

P is games played; W, L and D are wins, losses and draws. Clubs can have played different numbers of games because of byes or rescheduled matches.

Premiership points

A normal home-and-away win earns four premiership points, a draw earns two and a loss earns none. The official ladder also accounts for any league adjustments. Match scores and premiership points are different numbers.

Points for, points against and percentage

PF is the total points scored; PA is the total conceded. Percentage is PF ÷ PA × 100. For example, 900 points for and 750 against gives 120%. This is an illustration, not a club’s result. A dash is shown when the percentage cannot be calculated.

How teams level on points are separated

Percentage separates clubs on equal premiership points. Further ties at the end of the home-and-away season are subject to AFL rules, including results between the tied clubs. This page follows the official order rather than inventing a tie-break.

AFL ladder positions and the finals

Under the published format, the top six clubs progress straight to the first week of the eight-team finals. Seventh plays tenth and eighth plays ninth in wildcard finals. The winners join the top six. The home-and-away ladder stays separate from results in the finals series.

Questions about the AFL ladder

Who is on top of the 2027 AFL ladder?

The official 2027 ladder is not available here yet. Clubs are listed alphabetically, with their next confirmed game.

Is this a live ladder?

This is the published official ladder, not an in-game projection. Check the displayed ladder date; a newly confirmed result may appear before the next official standings update.

Why are there no rankings or recent results?

Rankings are shown only when the official ladder records games played. If the ladder is unavailable, clubs appear alphabetically. Recent form appears only when the confirmed match record agrees with the official season totals.

Can I find my club without changing the ladder order?

Choose your club above to highlight its row and see its next confirmed game. All clubs stay in the table, in official order when rankings are available.
